Julian Burton OAM
Board member

Julian Burton OAM is an Australian philanthropist, biotech entrepreneur and a survivor of the 2002 Bali bombings.

After suffering third-degree burns to over 35% of his body in the Bali tragedy, Julian channelled his recovery into lifelong advocacy by founding the Julian Burton Burns Trust in 2003. As Australia's first national burns community organisation, the Burns Trust raised over $20 million for burn prevention, care, and support before closing in 2018.

Following its closure, Julian transitioned into advanced medical innovation. He partnered with leading burns surgeon Professor John Greenwood to develop a pioneering artificial skin technology that is now sold globally. Today, he continues this work as a Director of Beta Cell Technologies, an emerging biotech company focusing on cutting-edge treatments for cell therapies.

Alongside his corporate and scientific work, he co-founded the Burton Foundation, a family foundation that supports South Australian charities. His profound community impact earned him the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2006 and the title of South Australian of the Year in 2010.

Julian resides in the Adelaide Hills with his wife, Kay, and their five children.
